The latest video preview on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is The Art of Metal Gear Solid V!
The art behind the most recent instalment of Metal Gear Solid comes from Konami in partnership with publisher Dark Horse and was released in 2016. It gives fans a look behind not the just The Phantom Pain, but also the prologue Ground Zeroes and The Kingdom of the Flies DLC.
The book showcases the concepts and designs for the characters, environments, enemies, machines, weapons, gear, marketing art and iconography across 184 pages. The release offers a lot to pore over for players of the game, with pages packed full of art.
This was the last project at Konami that renowned director Hideo Kojima worked on before departing with his own studio. Since then, Kojima Productions has released Death Stranding and there is an upcoming sequel. The good news for collectors is that the first game also has an artbook, The Art of Death Stranding.
Metal Gear Solid has had multiple artbooks in the past, including variations included in Collector's Editions of games, such as the PS3 HD Collection that came with an untitled artbook with art for MGS 2, Snake Eater and Peace Walker. Dark Horse also published a two-volume set, The Art of Metal Gear Solid I-IV in 2018, but like this one is unfortunately only available on the second hand market.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes was released in 2014 and followed the events of Peace Walker. It was a smaller title, which did come with criticism due to its length. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was the full game release that came in 2015 and set 9 years later. It was the series first venture into full open world gameplay and was met with high praise from critics and fans.
