Doug Chiang: The Cinematic Legacy And The Star Wars Legacy Coming December

Doug Chiang, one of the biggest names in sci-fi art, will have his work collected in a new premium book set that will be released later this year.
Known best for his work at Lucasfilm on the Star Wars movies, Doug Chiang is a modern legend in sci-fi concept art and illustration. He has created art for some of the biggest movies and franchises in Hollywood for more than 50 years. He's a name many are familiar with and even if you have not heard of him before, you'll have seen movies his art has contributed to.
On December 2nd 2025, some of the best pieces from Chiang will be available in a premium two-volume set from Abrams Books, titled Doug Chiang: The Cinematic Legacy And The Star Wars Legacy. This will come with 800 pages and filled with his incredible artwork, for both Star Wars and other projects he has been a part of. The book was announced on starwars.com ahead of Star Wars Celebration Japan, which takes place this coming week.

The collection is available to pre-order now at selected retailers, such as Amazon US, with other regions expected to follow soon. It will set you back a good chunk of change though, with listings coming in at a whopping $209.99, a price reached by very few artbooks.
Volume I is The Cinematic Legacy, which will showcase Chiang's art outside of Star Wars and boasts a mix of classic movies. Some that will be featured in this book include Back to the Future II, T2: Judgement Day, Spawn, The Mask, War of the Worlds and Jumanji. Also included will be art for Robota, his illustrated novel from 2003. Volume II, titled The Star Wars Legacy, will be filled with his superb art for the franchise after joining Lucasfilm. Readers will find art for movies, from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker, as well as Galaxy's Edge and the live-action series, The Mandalorian. This of course means it will showcase his art for ships, droids, creatures and epic moments that helped guide the visuals of the Star Wars universe.
There will also be commentary and stories featured throughout, offering insights into Chiang's hugely influential career.
