April 10th 2025

There has been no better time to be a gamer, new releases keep coming and it can be hard to keep up. Like the game themselves, the artbooks keep coming too. Whether you're a collector or just own a few, you'll be aware that the biggest games often have a dedicated artbook, something that has been the case for a long while now.

A handful of years back they would come out alongside a game and though this happens on occasion, The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows being an example, much more often it can now take 6 months to multiple years for an artbook to hit shelves. With this in mind, I wanted to take a look at some upcoming and recent games of 2025 that I suspect will be getting the artbook treatment over the next couple of years.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM made a big comeback in 2016 and followed up with DOOM Eternal in 2020, but it's not done yet. DOOM: The Dark Ages, a prequel to these releases, is coming May 13th and ups the ante with dragons, giant mechs and new weapons.

It's a very safe bet that this game is getting an artbook, not only because Bethesda published games often get them, but because the last two DOOM games did too. The Art of DOOM and The Art of DOOM Eternal were both published by Dark Horse and are filled with incredible art from the team. They have also been sharing new concept art online and director Hugo Martin has also released videos focusing on artwork too. It's hard to say when it is coming in this new trend of having artbooks released much later, but this is the most likely release on this list!

Elden Ring Nightreign

FromSoftware are no strangers to artbooks, having released them for the three Darksouls games, Bloodborne, Sekiro and most importantly in this case, Elden Ring.

The art for Elden Ring was published across two books, Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume I and Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume II. A third volume has also been released for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Japan and the English edition is also coming, but with no set date at this time. With the base game getting artbooks and Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III also coming, it's highly likely you'll be seeing a release for this one too, perhaps as Volume IV. Beware though, it could take up to a year, or possibly longer, to get an English edition after a Japanese release.

Borderlands 4

The looter-shooter series is returning on September 23rd 2025 with the 4th instalment, Borderlands 4. 2K and Gearbox Software have previously released artbooks for the series, including The Art of Borderlands 2 from BradyGames, The Art of Borderlands 3 from Titan Books and The Art of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands from Dark Horse. With the last few games getting an artbook, I think this is also likely to get one as well.

Ghost of Yōtei

Coming sometime in 2025 to PlayStation 5, Ghost of Yōtei is the follow up from Sucker Punch Productions to their hit game, Ghost of Tsushima. Though the studio doesn't have a long history of artbooks, they did release their first one for the previous entry with Dark Horse, titled The Art of Ghost of Tsushima. This artbook was unique in that it had exposed stitch binding and matte paper, in keeping with the aesthetic of the game, with a slipcase included too. This was unusual for Dark Horse, who remain consistent in how they release their books, so perhaps this is a sign of a relationship between the studio and publisher that may bring The Art of Ghost of Yōtei to fruition.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds was released in February to huge success by Capcom, selling over 10 million units in its first month. This is at a time other studios are reporting player counts with lower numbers, let alone copies sold. The popularity of the game highlights the appetite for Monster Hunter, a series that is also familiar with artbooks. Though there is nothing announced yet, Monster Hunter: World - Official Complete Works was released in English in 2021, a couple of years after the Japanese release. It's likely that a book will be made for Monster Hunter Wilds, but it could be a long wait if you're hoping for an English version.

Atomfall

Possibly the least likely game to get an artbook on this list, but the developer Rebellion has released an artbook in the past for their Sniper Elite series. This newly launched game has an interesting setting and world, being placed in an alternative history England in the 1960's. Atomfall also features robots, zombies and enemy factions, all of which is perfect for an artbook to explore.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The wildcard of this list, but given the buzz around this new game from studio Sandfull Interactive and its stunning visuals, it's begging to receive the artbook treatment. If this game does as well as the positive expectations indicate, it may push the developer and publisher Kepler Interactive to explore merch and, with any luck, The Art of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as part of that.

Kepler Interactive also have a couple of artbooks for other games they have published too, The Art of Scorn from Ebb Software in partnership with Titan Books and the upcoming Ultros: Design Works from Lost in Cult. Maybe this will be another artbook for the publisher and the first for Sandfull Interactive!

If any of the above artbooks are announced, they will of course be reported here! Keep an eye on the News section for reveals and see confirmed future releases on the Upcoming page.
